When we’re kids, we play with toys. These small, usually simple things can provide you hours of fun at a time, especially if they can do something that goes beyond our wildest dreams – playing music or voice lines, displaying an array of lights, having some sort of action to them, balancing by themselves, and so on.
But once you grow up, toys aren’t something that amuses you as much. Instead, you turn to awesome and cool gadgets that actually have some utility as well as modern looks and an aesthetic feel to them. And although this year is still in its early months, there are still enough things we’ve been introduced to in the past two months to make sure your gadget budget will get easily blown out of the water. With that in mind, here are the top 10 must-have gadgets of 2017.
1. Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT
Let’s start things off with something we’re all familiar with. USB flash drives are basically among the first gadgets ever created, but that doesn’t mean they will become redundant any time soon.
The latest proof of this comes from Kingston and their new DataTraveler Ultimate GT. There isn’t much to say about it except for the fact that it can store up to 2TB in its storage. That’s right – hundreds of movies, thousands of songs, tens of thousands of photos can fit into this tiny beast.
2. Withings Steel HR
Since we have proof that smartwatches weren’t just a one-time thing, it’s understandable that as time goes on, more and more of these useful gadgets will be coming our way. And the latest one that caught our eye is the Steel HR from Withings.
Withings already took an alternative approach to smartwatches when it released the analog Activite, but their new Steel HR model takes it to the next level. It does everything you’d expect a smartwatch to do, with an added heartrate monitor feature – and all that while sporting the company’s signature analog design.
3. Lenovo Smart Assistant
If you were among the many people that got amazed by the Amazon Echo back in 2014, you’ll absolutely love the Lenovo Smart Assistant. This smart speaker gadget is a rightful heir to Echo in every sense of the word – it’s better looking, has an improved sound system, and is more affordable than Amazon’s groundbreaking invention. All in all, it’s a nifty little gadget that many of us are more than likely to find useful.
4. Immotor Go
Walking is a thing of the past, people. Ever since the first Segway was introduced, we’ve been seeing a significant increase in folk who get around by standing on a two-wheeled personal scooter, and it’s only going up from here.
The newest invention from Immotor was simply dubbed as “Go.” It weighs 27 pounds, has three wheels, and features a ‘super battery’ that will surely open some new doors to future personal scooter designs.
5. Ashley Chloe Fuse
You know how everyone lost their minds when Apple released their wireless and easy-to-lose AirPods last year? Well, you can now forget about them, as Ashley Chloe is here to make sure you never lose your cordless earbuds again.
During the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the public was presented with Fuse – a set of AirPods-like earbuds, but with a catch. They come with a tubular case for safe carrying, as well as a bracelet-like charging strap and a necklace on which you can wear your ‘buds without worrying about losing them.
Let’s be honest here – drones are one of the most awesome gadgets ever invented. They can make videos like no other device can, they’re easy to control, and best of all, they can fly! But what happens when a company like PowerVision decided to create a drone that doesn’t go in the air, but rather under water?
The answer is: PowerRay happens. This new drone model is the ultimate cheating tool for all fishermen, as it can dive as deep as 100 feet under water, it supports VR googles, and it can stream videos in 4K resolution. Oh, and let’s not forget it has a sonar and a remotely controlled fishing line.
7. Blink XT
It’s not every day that we see a Kickstarter campaign transforming an indoor camera project to a complete and all-around security system. Nevertheless, that’s exactly what happened with Blink.
The new XT camera from Blink isn’t only equipped with a wind and water sensors as its predecessor, but it’s also waterproof, records 1080p video, and has infrared vision and motion detection. And the best part about it? It lasts for 2 years on a couple of AA batteries.
8. Sleep Number 360 ™
Now, here’s something you didn’t expect: what if we told you that even your bed can become a smart, self-adjusting gadget? If you’re thinking “Nah, that hasn’t been invented yet,” you’re wrong.
The Sleep Number 360 ™ is among the first smart beds that can modify its firmness as you change positions and that is able to tilt your head if it detects your snoring. If that wasn’t enough, it also features an integrated foot-warmer!
9. Dell XPS 13
Contrary to their desktop counterparts, laptops are portable, compact, and come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. That being said, it’s only natural that they fall under the gadget category, which means one simply had to make this list.
So far, the best laptop 2017 has to offer comes from Dell. Their XPS 13 took the already working formula and stretched it out a bit, so that now we have a laptop that can flip 360 degrees and the ability to function as a tablet. Aside from that, it also boasts top notch hardware specifications, which is by now expected from any Dell laptop.
10. LG W7 TV
Finally, we’re getting to the last, but not the least impressive entry on this list. Although a TV set isn’t something you’d expect to qualify as a must-have gadget in 2017, LG will probably change your mind about that.
The new W7 model is the thinnest and lightest TV set you have ever seen. It comes in 77” and 65”, but it only weighs 27 pounds and is 0.23” thick. Once mounted, it looks more like an out-of-place wallpaper piece than a TV, but its 4K Ultra-HD 2160p resolution clearly shows that this gadget is a force to be reckoned with.
